Buying Property in Crete - Contract Signing
Everything is in place for you to buy your house or land, the tax has been paid, the myriad of bits of paper have been filed with the Notary - it is the day of the Contract Signing.
The parties to the contract gather in the Notary's office. You and/or your lawyer, the seller(s) and their lawyer(s), us and the Notary. The largest contract in terms of people present that we have ever concluded was twenty seven. The Notary's office was not big enough to accommodate them all.
The Notary reads the contract out loud with any corrections that are necessary being made on the spot. The Notary and lawyers may ask questions of anyone present and even of people who are not present, by telephone. If they are unable to obtain the required information on the day it may be necessary to reconvene on another day.
Once the Notary and lawyers are satisfied that everything is in order the parties who need to sign the contract do so. They also sign the Notary's register of contracts. The payments are made by your lawyer. It is done. Now you can celebrate. The property is finally yours.
